Adoption applications will be reviewed in the order they are received. Please be patient as our first reply to your application may take a few days. We will respond to applications from those who seem to have a general knowledge of chameleon husbandry. We care that these chameleons are adopted out to the best homes possible.
If you are serious about adopting one of our chameleons, then you need to be serious about researching chameleon husbandry prior to completing our adoption application. If you're in a hurry, please look elsewhere. On our Resources page, you will find a number of reputable dealers who sell captive bred and captive hatched chameleons.
We reserve the right to deny any adoption application.
1. An appropriately-sized, fully screened chameleon cage designed specifically for a chameleon (preferably not a nylon mesh, zippered cage or any enclosure that has any glass surfaces).
2. A drip system and proper drainage from the cage.
3. Proper lighting
4. Photos of the complete set-up that is intended for the adoption animal. Photos of incomplete set-ups are not sufficient.
5. Researched chameleon husbandry. Research means that you are very familiar with chameleon husbandry websites, published chameleon books out there and that you have asked for advice from experienced keepers.
The $25 adoption fee is charged for each animal regardless of species, size, age and gender. Only one adoption animal per applicant unless offered as a pair. An adoption fee for each of the chameleons will be required.
When you are asked to remit the adoption and shipping fees, you will need to print out, complete and sign the
Contract & Release Form and send it in with your check.
If the chameleon will be shipped to you, we use FedEx and will only ship when weather conditions are ideal. FedEx guidelines require that packages are sent only to a business address. Delivery to a residence is prohibited because if no one is available to accept the package, delivery can be delayed by a day and FedEx doesn't want the reptile's life to be jeopardized. Additional shipping expenses include $5.00 which pays for a styrofoam lined shipping box approved for shipping "Live Harmless Reptiles."
Shipping and adoption fees must be paid by check to Chameleon Education & Outreach, Inc. and mailed to us at ChamEO, Inc., PO Box 371, Woodland Hills, CA 91365.
You must be at least 18 years old to adopt a chameleon from us. We require that a Contract & Release be signed by the person (primary caregiver) adopting the chameleon. The chameleons adopted from ChamEO, Inc. can never be sold. If you find that you are no longer able to care for the chameleon, then you must return it to ChamEO, Inc. for placement into a new home. If the chameleon is shipped to you, please save your shipping box.
Terms may be updated without notice.
Chameleons given to ChamEO, Inc. or its agents for rehabilitation, care or placement into a new home become the property of ChamEO, Inc. The owner relinquishing the chameleon(s) has six days to reclaim the chameleon(s). You may be required to pay a boarding fee and reimburse for any veterinary care, transportation costs or rehabilitation efforts. After the holding period, ChamEO, Inc. may, at its discretion, post the chameleon up for adoption on this website.
